(RICHMOND, Calif.) — Over 2,000 of West Contra Costa Unified School District’s (WCCUSD) classified employees represented by Teamsters 856 have joined a coalition of local labor unions and put their support behind WCCUSD Board of Education candidates Valerie Cuevas, Madeline Kronenberg and Consuelo Lara.

In addition to Local 856, the labor coalition includes the United Teachers of Richmond, Teamsters Local 315, the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers Local 21, and the Richmond Police Officers Association.

“Cuevas, Kronenberg and Lara are the best choices in November for working families in West County,” said Peter Finn, Secretary-Treasurer of Teamsters Local 856. “Their combined experience as educators and leaders, their understanding that a successful Board must work with and be supportive of the work of District employees — including classified staff — and their commitment to fearlessly advocating for what’s best for students make them an asset to the community.”

Two of the candidates—Board President Cuevas and Trustee Kronenberg — are incumbents who have demonstrated their commitment to students, families and staff throughout their tenure as Board members, while Lara has decades of experience as a dedicated educator.

In addition to meeting and vetting each candidate in order to find those who would work with and fight for WCCUSD families and staff, the coalition also held an open forum in August and invited candidates to attend and explain their platform, as well as answer questions posed to them by union members.
