(SANTA ROSA, Calif.) — The Sonoma County Deputy Public Defenders Attorneys’ Association (SCDPDAA) has voted to affiliate with Teamsters Local 856. The association comprises nearly 30 attorneys serving as public defenders across Sonoma County. The public defenders join more than 300 new workers organized by Local 856 in 2020 alone.

“The association chose to affiliate with Teamsters 856 to align with an organization that has a proven record of providing aggressive representation for members in the public sector,” said Matt Finnegan, Teamsters 856 Staff Attorney.

Teamsters 856 also represents the Sonoma County Prosecutors’ Association, as well as more than 500 members working for the city of Santa Rosa – the seat of Sonoma County.

“I welcome SCDPDAA to Teamsters 856 and look forward to providing strong representation for these public servants,” said Peter Finn, Teamsters 856 Principal Officer/Secretary-Treasurer.

Through the affiliation, the public defenders join Local 856’s 17,000 members throughout Northern California, including over 7,000 public employees.

“With the addition of SCDPDAA, Teamsters 856 continues its growth — increasing influence and power for workers not only in Sonoma County, but throughout Northern California,” Finn said.
 

Founded in 1949, Teamsters Local 856 represents 17,000 hardworking members in the San Francisco Bay Area, North Bay, Sacramento, and Central Valley communities.
