(ATLANTA) – Following months of contentious negotiations, more than 160 members of Teamsters Local 728 have ratified their fourth contract with Republic Services in Atlanta.
“We worked hard, stayed in solidarity, and secured a strong contract that improves the working conditions of maintenance workers, dispatchers, and drivers,” said Jeff Rolland, a shop steward and 37-year driver at Republic Services.
Building upon the gains achieved in the previous contract, Teamsters working at the Republic Services facility in Atlanta won wage increases, improved paid-time-off policies, and the recognition of Juneteenth as a paid holiday.
“I want to thank our brothers and sisters for staying solid and keeping an eye on the prize,” said Matt Higdon, President of Teamsters Local 728. “I would also like to thank Division Representative Larry Daugherty out of Local 350 and others for their assistance in the bargaining process. Thanks to their support and the strength of our members, we have made significant gains, including the recognition of Juneteenth as a paid holiday.”
“I want to congratulate these workers and thank the elected officials and community leaders who demonstrated their support throughout the negotiating process,” said Chuck Stiles, Director of the Teamsters Solid Waste and Recycling Division. “Local 728 stuck together and fought for a fair contract that rewards the essential work our members provide this community.”
