(MAYFLOWER, Ark.) – A group of heavy equipment operators at a Lakeshore Recycling Services (LRS) landfill in Mayflower, Ark., has voted to join Teamsters Local 373.
In addition to a unit of 46 drivers in Wauconda, Ill., this is the second organizing win the Teamsters have secured at LRS in just the last month. The Teamsters Union represents hundreds of LRS workers nationwide.
“It feels great to be part of this win for the Southern Region,” said Justin Seigrist, an LRS worker and new member of Local 373. “I hope what we’ve done here sparks a movement for more people in Arkansas to exercise their right to unionize.”
LRS is a solid waste company that serves communities across the country. These five workers operate heavy machinery to safely and efficiently dispose of waste.
“These workers showed real grit in this organizing campaign,” said Stacy Fox, President of Local 373. “This is a small group, but they proved just how strong they are during this fight. With support from the International, we look forward to continuing our work with them to secure a strong labor agreement.”
This is the first group of LRS workers in Arkansas to join the Teamsters. They unionized to get a strong contract that will guarantee they are treated fairly on the job.
“The progress we’ve been making at LRS shows that businesses can really work productively with unions,” said Chuck Stiles, Director of the Teamsters Solid Waste and Recycling Division. “I am so proud of these workers for sticking it out through this fight. This division is ready to work hard to help them ratify a fair contract.”
