(WASHINGTON) – The following is a statement from Tom Erickson, Director of the Teamsters Warehouse Division, and Josh Graves, Vice President of Teamsters Local 104 and International Representative for the Teamsters Warehouse Division, on US Foods’ ongoing attacks on the collective bargaining rights of Arizona workers seeking Teamsters representation.
“US Foods is running a dirty, illegal, and hostile anti-union campaign against Arizona workers fighting for a voice on the job with Teamsters Local 104. The company is desperately fighting to silence them. Management has turned to every pathetic trick in the anti-union playbook to deny workers their federally protected right to organize.
“The company has retaliated against workers throughout this organizing campaign. In many cases, management has exploited the fact that these workers are primarily Spanish speakers to push its anti-union propaganda, trying to instill fear and trample their rights.
“US Foods recently suspended a union member for encouraging support for the Teamsters. This suspension is a blatant act of retaliation and a clear violation of federal law. Instead of respecting their workers, US Foods is using scare tactics and lies to undermine workers’ rights.
“A Fortune 150 company generating $39.4 billion in net sales with a gross profit of almost $7 billion has no excuse for bullying, harassing, and intimidating the workers who make its success possible. Their rights are not for management to grant or deny. These tactics are illegal, disgusting, and show the true colors of this company.
“The Teamsters are not backing down. We already represent 5,500 workers at US Foods. Arizona workers have made their choice clear. They want strong representation on the job.
“Anti-union consultants and corporate propaganda will not destroy their cause. US Foods must end this anti-worker campaign. If management continues their union-busting activity, then we will continue to expose this company’s illegal behavior and hold US Foods accountable in every way possible. These workers have the backing of 1.3 million Teamsters. We will not allow US Foods to attack their rights.”
