(WASHINGTON) – The following is a statement from Teamsters General President James P. Hoffa about the Missouri Senate’s failure to overturn Gov. Jay Nixon’s veto of paycheck deception legislation. This bill would have hampered the ability of unions to fully represent their membership in the state and weakened the voice of Missouri's working families.

“Teamster leaders and members in Missouri are to be lauded for their tireless effort to defeat this attack on the rights of working families. Workers in Missouri have shown that when workers unite they can defeat well-funded corporate special interests.

“The bipartisan coalition of legislators in the House and Senate who voted against this attack on working families displayed courage in the face of pressure from outside Super PACs. They know that working families have an important voice in the state Capitol and their voice has a right to be heard."
