Workers at the Columbus branch of Heidelberg Distribution, a state-wide beer and wine distributor in Ohio, recently voted to become members of Local 284.

“The company fought us tooth and nail, but we won,” said Rick Kepler, business agent for Local 284 in Columbus. “We drove one of our Teamster 18-wheelers to Columbus and parked it out in front in order to show Teamster power.”

In total 102 employees of Heidelberg Distribution working as drivers and in the warehouse are now new members of Local 284.  They join their brothers and sisters at local unions in Dayton and Cleveland who have been represented by the Teamsters for several years at the Heidelberg facilities in those cities.

“I had heard many good things about Teamster membership,” said Ken Maddox, a warehouse employee at Columbus’ Heidelberg facility. “We handle the distribution of beer and wine for the greater Columbus area and the suburbs.  I worked on getting cards out to all the guys and I knew that we would have a good victory.”
