California Ready Mix Drivers Ratify Extended Contract
More than 600 cement truck drivers, dispatches and yard workers in the San Francisco bay area have voted to extend their current contract for three more years. An overwhelming 99 percent of the workers voted in favor of the extension. The overall economic settlement includes a $6 per hour wage increase over three years.
"The three-year extension we just ratified continues the history of having the best Ready Mix contract in the country," said Terry Post, a member of Local 853 in San Leandro, Calif., and a mixer driver for the past 32 years. "The excellent contract means less turnover of employees which, in turn, means more experienced employees and union members who know the true value of solidarity and strength."
Negotiations for the contracted were conducted by Rome Aloise, International Vice President and President of Joint Council 7 in San Francisco and Bo Morgan, Vice President of Local 853.
"Congratulations to the cement workers from locals 287, 315 and 853 who will benefit from this contract extension," Aloise said. "There was a lot of hard work put into contract negotiations because it is essential that our hardworking men and women in the construction industry have a contract which will serve them well."
