What’s Next for Our Campaign?

Since we filed for our election at the NMB last week, many things have happened. Late last week the NMB rejected AMFA’s filing as insufficient and untimely. And today we found out that the Board has announced election dates for our brothers and sisters at US Airways. So what happens next for us?

Click here to read a factsheet that explains the NMB election process and what we can expect in the coming weeks and months.

We are currently working with Teamster data experts to analyze AA’s eligibility list and determine its accuracy. As the factsheet explains, “It is common practice for an employer or a competing union to add ineligible workers to the list” in order to make it harder for us to have a “showing of interest.” The numbers from the company don’t look as inflated as we thought they’d be, but TWU is likely to submit its own padded list in order to undermine our “showing of interest.” Teamster legal support is being deployed to challenge both AA’s and TWU’s list as necessary so that we can get our election.

For now, the process is in the hands of the NMB. It could take a few weeks or a few months for them to make their determination on a “showing of interest” and call an election. Then the board will set election dates, which will likely be a 4 to 6 week voting period during which we will be able to cast our votes by phone or internet. Voting instructions will be mailed to our home addresses and there will be a process for requesting duplicate ballot instructions in case you don’t receive your instructions. On the final day of the election period, the votes will be counted at the NMB.

Let’s all stay unified and mobilize our coworkers to be ready to vote Teamsters when the time comes.

Read the factsheet on what happens next and share it with your coworkers.
