Many of our coworkers are asking questions about our pension and what will happen to it when we become Teamsters. It is essential that we all have the right information about our retirement security and make sure that our coworkers know the facts.

Here are the key things we all need to know:

• We, the members, will choose what pension we want for our work group. No union can force us into any pension fund against our will.

• We won’t lose our existing pension. Our AA pension is protected by federal law – it belongs to us regardless of union representation.

• The TWU is trying the scare us by saying the Teamster campaign is a “pension grab” and that our dues money will be used to prop up the Teamsters’ Central States Fund. That’s totally false. Central States is not at all being considered for our work group.

• Our new pension as Teamsters will have to be negotiated and voted on by us, the members. There are many good options for us to choose from and Teamster pension experts will guide us as we make our decision.

• The Teamsters have hundreds of strong, healthy pension funds, including the Western Conference of Teamsters Pension Plan, which is the largest multiemployer defined-benefit pension plan in the country.

• The TWU has quite a nerve saying anything at all about our pension situation. It is at least partially responsible for the fact that our current pension is frozen. It has absolutely no pension option to offer us because it is mostly a transit union involved in large public sector pension funds, which are not available to aviation mechanics.
