Workers at Republic/Allied Waste, who serve all of Cape Cod, have ratified their first contract which contains many improvements.

“The contract includes improved wages and a grievance procedure,” said George Belanger, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 59 in New Bedford. “There is also language that will improve working conditions and enhance job protections.”

The contract covers 30 drivers and mechanics. The workers overwhelmingly ratified the contract on August 3, 2013.

The workers joined Local 59 in July 2012 by a nearly 3-1 margin.
