BMWED Members: Amtrak Arbitration Agreement

The Passenger Rail Labor Bargaining Coalition (PRLBC) has finalized an agreement with Amtrak to arbitrate and settle the BMWED contract dispute. Resulting from the July 16-17, 2013 contract mediation session led by National Mediation Board Chair Linda Puchala, the Passenger Rail Labor Bargaining Coalition and Amtrak made the commitment to explore the possibility of resolving our dispute through the arbitration processes contemplated by Sections 7 and 8 of the RLA, 45 U.S.C. §§ 157, 158. The PRLBC and Amtrak reached agreement in connection with binding interest arbitration. This arbitration agreement provides that a three-man panel or "Board" will meet, hear testimony and review evidence and argument supporting the positions of the respective parties, then decide how our BMWED Northeast Corridor Agreement, our Off-Corridor Agreement, and the BRS (C&S Department) Agreements with Amtrak will be resolved.

We will have a decision and contract in place by January 1, 2014 at the latest.
