A manufacturing employee at Senior Flexonics was awarded more than $27,000 in back pay after Teamsters Local 330 fought to protect his job following a wrongful termination.

The settlement, finalized on Oct. 6, is one of multiple reinstatements at Senior Flexonics achieved this year by Local 330 representatives. Member Michael Wittmann has returned to work at the Bartlett-based automotive, aerospace, energy and medical supply company after approximately six months off the job. An independent arbitrator officially ordered Wittmann back to work in September after Local 330 filed a grievance over the member’s dismissal by the company.

“This is a perfect example of how important it is for workers to have the security of a Teamster contract,” said Dominic Romanazzi, President of Local 330. “Michael Wittmann is a longtime employee who was unfairly fired. Local 330 remained committed and determined to doing whatever was necessary to get him back to work. The union ensured our member was made whole, just as we would for any hardworking Teamster.”

In addition to recovering his lost wages, Local 330 has secured reimbursement from Senior Flexonics for any and all outstanding medical expenses Wittmann accrued during his improper time off.

Approximately 340 workers at Senior Flexonics overwhelmingly voted to join Local 330 in February 2013. Following six months of negotiations, members ratified their first Teamster contract by a 3-to-1 margin in the fall of last year. The current three-year contract includes annual wage increases, seniority rights, strike protection and, as evidenced by Wittmann’s reinstatement this month, the benefit of the Teamsters’ powerful grievance procedure.
