Woodbridge Winery Workers Join Teamsters Local 601 In California
Nearly 50 workers at Woodbridge Winery in Acampo, Calif. joined Teamsters Local 601 in Stockton, voting 32-13 in favor of representation. The new bargaining unit of cellar operation employees includes 46 workers who are seeking improved pay, benefits and the protection of a union contract.
Local 601 said it is honored to represent the cellar operation workers and is looking forward to negotiating a strong contract on their behalf.
Woodbridge winery workers withstood strong opposition by the company to their organizing drive. The company refused to recognize the union after a majority of the workers expressed their desire to join Local 601. The Teamsters filed an election petition with the NLRB, which the employer attempted to halt, and voting took place on Feb. 6.
The workers’ ballots were impounded after the company sought to challenge the results. But after review, the NLRB rejected the company’s appeal and the votes were finally counted on March 4.
Woodbridge, a Constellation Brands company, produces some of the finest wines in California, including Ravens Wood, Toasted Head and Robert Mondavi wines.
