In remarks at the Detroit Labor Day Parade today, International Brotherhood of Teamsters General President Jim Hoffa pledged solidarity with the United Auto Workers (UAW) in their contract negotiations with the Big Three: Ford, Chrysler and GM.

“I know you haven’t picked a target yet, but it’s one of those three,” Hoffa said. “If the UAW goes on strike, I make a pledge on behalf of the 1.4 million Teamster members – we will honor your picket lines. We will walk with you every day. The Teamsters and the UAW are together. They aren’t going to haul those cars if we’re there.”

Hoffa was introduced at the rally by Dennis Williams, President of the UAW.

“He (Hoffa) is a great friend of mine, one I’ve known for more than 20 years. We’ve campaigned across the country together,” Williams said. “He has always stuck with us in our time of need and we have stuck with the Teamsters in their time of need.”

The Teamsters National Automobile Transporters Industry Negotiating Committee reached a tentative agreement on Sept. 1 for a new national carhaul contract that covers about 6,000 Teamster carhaulers.
