Teamsters Local 916 Celebrates Black History Month
(SPRINGFIELD, Ill.) – Black History Month honors the sacrifices and contributions that African-Americans have made. As Teamster members, we recognize the positive impact and imprint that these contributions have made in our union and that continue to resonate in the work fulfilled by our members.
On Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2019, Mike Frerichs, Treasurer of Illinois, recognized and honored Jimmy Franklin, a member of Teamsters Local 916, at a ceremony honoring the countless achievements of African-Americans in communities throughout the state of Illinois.
Franklin has been a dedicated Teamster member for over three decades. Throughout his career, he has served in several union positions including Division Representative at the Illinois Department of Transportation Division 8 and as a Trustee on the Executive Board of Local 916. When he is not serving his Teamsters members, Franklin is serving members of his community in the Metro East and coaching the East St. Louis Men’s Track & Field Team.
Franklin was among eight award recipients who were recognized for their work in communities throughout the state of Illinois. Frerichs was joined by several distinguished guests including Julianna Stratton, Illinois Lieutenant Governor and Kwame Raoul, Illinois Attorney General.
Teamsters Local 916 is an affiliate of Teamsters Joint Council 25, America’s premier labor union throughout the state of Illinois and northwest Indiana.
