Teamsters Mourn Loss of Long-Time Leader Dave Laughton
On November 6, former Teamsters Joint Council 10 Secretary-Treasurer and Teamsters Local 633 Secretary-Treasurer Dave Laughton passed away.
“Dave was a friend and a mentor to me, someone whose advice I could always count on, and a real titan for this labor union,” said Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien. “This is a sad day for the Teamsters Union. Our thoughts go out to his wife Marcia and his entire family.”
Laughton became a Teamster in 1971 and was elected as a business agent of Local 633 in 1977. Six years later, he was elected Secretary-Treasurer and Principal Officer. He proudly served the local from 1983 until his retirement in 2017. Laughton sat on the Joint Council 10 Executive Board for 14 years.
Laughton also served as the Director of the Teamsters Brewery and Soft Drink Workers Conference, Co-Chairman of the Anheuser-Busch National Negotiating Committee, and Co-Chairman of the Miller/Coors Negotiating Committee. He was Co-Chairman of the New England Teamsters and Trucking Industry Pension Fund and Chairman of the IBT Health and Pension Benefits Committee. In 2018, the members of Local 633 voted to name their union hall the “David W. Laughton Membership Hall.”
“Dave was a great man,” said Jeff Padellaro, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 633 and the current Director of the Teamsters Brewery and Soft Drink Workers Conference. “His work on pensions and health care have protected generations of Teamster members and their families. We are all better for having known him.”
