(MONTCLAIR, Calif.) – Public sector workers in the City of Montclair represented by Teamsters Local 1932 have voted unanimously to approve their first contract, marking a significant win for the dedicated workers who maintain and enhance the city’s infrastructure and public services such as parks, sewers, streets, sidewalks, and storm systems.
The new agreement includes significant pay increases, improved health insurance coverage, and higher holiday pay. This contract comes a few months after Teamsters demanded that the Montclair City Council deliver a fair contract that honors their hard work. Shortly after they made their demands in mid-September, Montclair City Council began negotiating with Local 1932.
“It wasn’t easy going to City Council to demand a fair contract, but after we filled the council chambers and delivered powerful public comments, it was all worth it,” said Alex Perez, a lead maintenance worker in Montclair’s Public Works unit. “This contract isn’t just groundbreaking, it proves that when we fight together, we win together.”
“This strong agreement is a massive win for Montclair Teamsters, as it sets a strong precedent for all future contracts,” said Carlos Gonzales, business agent and staff coordinator at Local 1932. “We will continue to build upon this contract in years to come to address our members’ needs and to ensure that their voices are no longer silenced.”
