(TUKWILA, Wash.) – Following a credible strike threat, workers at Sysco’s Kent, Wash., distribution center have unanimously ratified their first Teamsters contract. The group joins the existing collective bargaining agreement that already protects more than 275 drivers and warehouse workers represented by Teamsters Local 117 at the facility.

“Ratification of this agreement means these workers now have access to the full pension, health care, and welfare benefits they deserve — with zero out-of-pocket costs,” said Paul Dascher, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 117. “It’s a powerful victory for a determined group of logistics professionals who stood together to improve their jobs and their lives.”

The group voted unanimously to join Local 117 in November. Their new agreement provides the same top-tier benefits as their fellow Teamsters, including a defined-benefit pension, fully employer-paid Teamsters health care, and significant wage increases. The upgraded health care plan alone will save workers hundreds of dollars each month.

“Our new pension and health care plan is a huge win for us,” said Krystal Miller-Parker, an inventory control associate and Local 117 shop steward. “We’re a tight-knit team that takes pride in our work, and this contract gives us the stability we need to support our families, especially in today’s economy. It’s exactly why we joined the Teamsters, and we’re proud to now be working under a strong union contract.”

Teamsters Local 117 represents 17,000 men and women at 200 employers across Washington State. For more information, visit teamsters117.org.
