Teamsters Say a Strike is Imminent After Dr. Pepper Distributor Proposes Insurance Cuts in Iowa Meat Packing Town

(OTTUMWA, IA) – Union Officials say workers at the American Bottling plant in Ottumwa, Iowa are planning to strike at 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 13 if the company doesn’t back off its proposal to terminate the employees’ current healthcare plan in the next contract. The company is proposing switching employees from their current plan under United Healthcare of Iowa to a company plan under Keurig Dr. Pepper with higher out-of-pocket expenses.

Teamsters Call for Enforceable Worker Protections, Testing Following Executive Order Requiring Meatpacking Plants to Remain Open

(WASHINGTON) – In response to the executive order issued this week mandating meatpacking plants remain open during the COVID-19 crisis, the Teamsters Union called on the administration and federal, state, and local regulators today to enforce worker protections and increase testing on the job for food supply chain workers.
