Teamster History: The Real Story of Men and Women Who Built the Middle Class and Moved North America Forward

The IBT Training and Development Department will conduct a two-and-a-half-day course designed to give participants a thorough overview of the history of the Teamsters Union. They will learn how to use highlights from that history to guide and motivate members, especially in relation to their current activities and challenges. Participants will also review the process for discovering, documenting, and maintaining local union histories. Highlights include significant Teamster milestones and the Union’s legacy to workers over the last century, as well as changes in the media’s portrayal of the Teamsters through the decades. It will also familiarize participants with the Teamsters Labor History Research Center at George Washington University and the wide array of resources available there to members.
