Vice President - Central Region

Danny Avelyn became a Teamsters Local 41 member in 1979 working for a cartage company in Kansas City, Missouri.  He began working for Consolidated Freightways in 1984 and transferred to Omaha, Nebraska in 1992, where he served as a Local 554 shop steward from 1992 to 2002. 

After serving as shop steward, Avelyn became a local union business agent and was elected Local 554 Vice President and became principal officer in 2014. He also serves on the board of the MO-KAN-NE Conference of Teamsters, is the Central Region OTR chairman for the freight division and is the President of Joint Council 56.

Avelyn is an experienced administrator who improved the finances of Local 554 and Joint Council 56. He has also expanded educational opportunities for members and built strong ties between the union and the Omaha community through flood relief projects. 

On March 22, 2022, Avelyn was sworn in as Central Region Vice President for the International Brotherhood of Teamsters.
