Teamsters Local 922, D.C. Taxi Drivers to Hold A Second Caravan for Fairness

Taxi drivers in Washington, D.C. are hitting the streets again for a caravan for fairness on Wednesday, October 8, 2014. The drivers are demanding fair legislation from the DC Council. Taxi Companies, UberX, Lyft, and others should follow the same regulations, rather than the proposed two-tiered system that gives a competitive advantage to private vehicles for-hire and keeps the public vehicles for-hire strictly controlled.

The Council bill does not address the taxi drivers' concerns about fairness. It would create a two-tier system that would harm taxi drivers' livelihoods and continue to give the private sedan services a big competitive edge.

The October 8 event follows a similar caravan for fairness held on June 25.

Drivers will be departing Hains Point at about 10:30 a.m. and will drive along Constitution Avenue to the U.S. Capitol, then on to Freedom Plaza downtown, where the caravan will end.

The October 8 event will coincide with international taxicab rallies held around the globe.
