This is the first of several blogs in the next week that will detail the Teamsters’ Get Out The Vote (GOTV) effort in advance of the Nov. 8 election.

The Teamsters are revving up efforts to get candidates elected up and down the ballot who will stick up for hard-working Americans trying to earn a fair wage so they can support their families.

In advance of the Nov. 8 election, the union has activated nearly 200 TEAM (Teamster Education And Mobilization) staff in 20 states. Those folks are heading out to Teamster work sites to talk to members about pocketbook issues affecting everyday people and union-endorsed candidates. TEAM staff are also reaching out to members through phone banking to stress the importance of the upcoming election.

These actions are just the latest efforts by the Teamsters to get our members ready to vote. Earlier this year, Teamster staff used a new workplace reporting app that allowed them to better log where they have been and whom they talked to at each job location.

Besides registering members at the worksites, the union took advantage of national social media efforts to garner new online registrations through the Teamsters’ Rock the Vote registration tool.

Teamsters and everyday Americans will face a stark choice when it comes to voting this month. By maximizing the number of workers that are eligible to vote, the union can help ensure the election of candidates who value fair pay, labor rights, infrastructure investment, education and job training as well as retirement security.

At a time when many workers continue to struggle to earn a wage that supports a family and more jobs are increasingly being sent overseas, now is not the time to take a pass on the electoral process.  The U.S. needs the best and brightest who recognize that people are our greatest resource – and they deserve to be treated with respect and dignity.
