(WASHINGTON) – The following is a statement from Teamsters General President James P. Hoffa on the unveiling of a $1 trillion infrastructure proposal by Senate Democrats yesterday.

“For years, the nation’s workers have been hamstrung by political infighting that halted the passage of a substantial infrastructure bill that would improve the nation’s transportation, energy and water systems and create good-paying jobs. That, however, is hopefully about to change.

“Senate Democrats have rolled out a wide-ranging plan that would benefit not only working Americans, but the business community as well. It would improve the ability of companies to produce and move commerce nationwide, while at the same time giving a boost to the economy. And it would employ thousands at good wages and benefits.

“President Trump has also promised to introduce his own proposal soon, and the Teamsters look forward to viewing that as well. We are convinced that together, elected officials can enact significant bipartisan legislation that will set the U.S. on a necessary path to compete globally. That’s what this union called for when it rolled out its own ‘Let’s Get America Working’ platform in 2015, and that is what is still needed today.”
