Hands Off Our Work! Fight Back Against Supervisors Working

At a time when UPS is looking to target UPS Teamsters with layoffs, it’s more important than ever for locals, business agents, and stewards to push back against management’s efforts to attack bargaining unit work. Supervisors working has long been a problem at this company, but our new contract provides stronger enforcement tools to hold UPS accountable for stealing our members’ hours and wages. We must use these provisions to fight back against supervisors working and layoffs.

The following materials have been developed by the National UPS Teamsters Contract Enforcement Committee to empower the rank-and-file to be vigilant and aggressive about filing supervisors working grievances in a timely manner. We urge all UPS locals to engage members with these materials and be ready to take action on supervisors working grievances. The toolkit also includes new materials on 9.5 eligibility and information on the May 19 training webinar on heat safety and harassment.

When supervisors perform Teamster work, they are robbing you of the hours and wages that belong in your paycheck. This can also lead to more job cuts at a time when the company is already looking to target UPS Teamsters with layoffs. We need to fight back by blowing the whistle on supervisors working.

Our new contract strengthens grievances against supervisors working with increased penalties. The first two violations are paid at double time, but under Article 3, Section 7, the third violation by the same supervisor in a nine-month period qualifies for the quadruple-time penalty. That’s up to $177 per hour on the third violation at the top rate. Use the UPS Teamsters Notes for Supervisors Working Grievance Investigation sheet or the Grievance Notes tool on your UPS Teamsters app to document instances of supervisors working. Then, get with your shop steward to file a grievance.

With layoffs happening around the country, we must be diligent and aggressive about filing supervisors working grievances in a timely manner to hold the company accountable! ENFORCE THE CONTRACT!

Register: May 19 Heat & Harassment Webinar

Join the Teamsters Package Division and the Teamsters Training and Grants Department for a national contract enforcement training webinar on heat safety, harassment, and other issues. With the summer months approaching, it is critical that UPS Teamsters understand and enforce the historic heat protections that we fought so hard to win last summer, including the June 1 deadline for UPS to install a second fan in all package cars. In addition, the webinar will cover A/C in new vehicles, heat shields, air induction vents, ice machines, water fountains, and building fans. Participants will also learn about enforcing language against management harassment, combatting retaliation, and other topics. All UPS locals, business agents, and rank-and-file UPS Teamsters are encouraged to participate in this important online training!

Registration is required. Please register as soon as possible.

The webinar will take place on Sunday, May 19 at 4 pm ET / 3 pm CT / 2 pm MT / 1 pm PT.
