(WASHINGTON) – Forty new Teamsters Business Agents from across the country have travelled to Washington D.C. to participate in this week’s Business Agent Skills in Survival (BASIS) training.

The five-day program at the IBT Headquarters provides an overview of the skills and knowledge needed to be successful as a Teamsters Business Agent. The subjects include: bargaining, grievance handling, building solidarity within bargaining units, organizing work and developing strong steward systems.

The Business Agents will attend workshops run by IBT and affiliate staff members who will share their expertise and experience with the goal of providing the attendees a foundation that will help them better serve the members for which they represent.

BASIS is just one of the courses offered annually to officers of the union by the Teamsters Leadership Academy. Additional information on the courses offered by the IBT Training and Development Department can be found here.
