Teamsters End Strike, Ratify Contract at NDSM
(DE PERE, Wisc.) – Members of Teamsters Local 662 at New Dairy Select Milk (NDSM) have overwhelmingly ratified a new collective bargaining agreement. The ratification puts an end to a nearly two-month unfair labor practice strike at the De Pere facility, and came just one day after Local 662 won a strike at Leinenkugel’s.
“We couldn’t be prouder to have victories in two strikes, two days in a row, in two industries that are emblematic of Wisconsin’s pride and joy,” said Tom Strickland, Local 662 Secretary-Treasurer. “Congratulations to all of the hard-working men and women at NDSM De Pere, who demonstrated incredible bravery and tenacity throughout this process.”
NDSM, a subsidiary of Borden Dairy formerly known as Morning Glory, provides sour cream for a number of well-known brands, including Taco Bell, Wendy’s and Hello Fresh. The DePere facility provides the sour cream to every Taco Bell location east of the Rocky Mountains, and with the strike ending, a potential shortage at the fast casual chain was narrowly avoided.
“These NDSM workers are not just incredibly tough, but incredibly smart as well,” said Peter Finn, Teamsters Western Region International Vice President and Director of the Food Processing Division. “Thanks to their grit and determination, they gained health care benefits under a Teamster plan that will provide better coverage at reduced rates for both parties.”
