TNBC members, delegates and guests gathered Saturday morning for a prayer breakfast featuring Rev. Joshua A. Harris, Senior Pastor of St. Timothy Baptist Church, located in Cleveland.

The evening was dedicated to honorees and recipients of the Pioneer Leadership and Lifetime Achievement Awards.

International Vice President Ron Herrera addressed the crowd at the banquet with a warm welcome on behalf of the Western Region.

Rev. Stephen Douglas Sullivan Sr., a former Teamster, was the keynote speaker of the day. Rev. Sullivan focused his message around this year’s theme, “Exceeding the Vision and Expanding the Possibilities.”

Sullivan is a third-generation Teamster who was a member of Local 249 before becoming a pastor.

“You can’t change the message, you have to change the methods; we must expand the possibilities of growth,” Sullivan said.

He reminded everyone it would take unity to bring forth victory and growth within the TNBC.

“It doesn’t take a lot of folks to do great things,” Sullivan said. “It just takes a few ordinary individuals to do extraordinary things.”

This year’s Pioneer Leadership Awards were presented to Debra Simmons-Peterson, President of Local 743; Danny Barton, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 135; and Rick Hicks, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 174 and President of Joint Council 28.

The Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to TNBC’s National Chaplain and Southern Region Vice President Elder Waymon B. Stroud.
